Abstract

1,164,448. Mixing apparatus. E. H. PRIEST and G. M. PRIEST. 14 Nov., 1966 [12 Nov., 1965], No. 48231/65. Heading B1C. Two fluids are mixed by impinging one on the other at a substantial angle and creating turbulence downstream of the impingement region. One fluid X passes through a cylindrical pipe 2, and the other fluid Y passes into a plenum chamber 1 surrounding the pipe 2, and is discharged radially inwards between radial partitions 4 to impinge on the fluid X. The flow then undergoes a sudden expansion at 5 which produces turbulence and further mixing. The fluid Y is preferably denser than the fluid X, for example it may be liquid and the fluid X gas. Alternatively they may both be liquid or both gas.
