Abstract

1,164,009. Carrying liquefied gases. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 6 Feb., 1967 [25 May 1966], No. 5544/67. Heading B7A. [Also in Division F4j A cold liquefied gas storage container 110 at substantially atmospheric pressure mounted in the hold of a tanker 100 comprises a primary liquid holding tank 112 surrounded by an outer secondary tank 114 of similar shape to the hold and having thermal insulation 116 secured to its outer surface; the primary tank 112 having (1) an internal longitudinal bulkhead 124 secured thereto so as to provide liquid isolated port and starboard sections, (2) a transverse bulkhead 128 dividing each section into fore and aft portions, (3) a plurality of apertured webs 136 extending at least from side to side of the opposite walls of said sections and (4) a plurality of stiffening members 118 secured to the exterior of the primary tank and to the interior of the secondary tank. The container is supported within the hold by co-operating key and keyway means 120, 122 which permit relative movement between the container and the inner hull 104. Anti-flotation blocks 156 are located between the underside of the deck and the upper surface of the outer tank to prevent undue upward movement thereof.
