Abstract

1,160,602. Vehicle seat. UOP BOSTROM (UK) Ltd. 28 May, 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 33073/67. Heading B5A. A one-piece cover or skin of synthetic material for an upholstered seat is made by manufacturing a master pattern comprising a cushion of foam material covered with a skin formed of shaped pieces of leather or other natural skin, impregnating the foam material with a synthetic resin and causing or allowing the impregnating resin to harden so rendering the master pattern rigid, making a mould from the master pattern and forming in said mould a one-piece seat cover or skin in synthetic material by casting, slush moulding or spraying. The mould is formed from the master pattern either by spraying the master pattern with metal, until with or without reinforcements a rigid mould is formed or by forming an epoxy resin mould from the master pattern, forming a rubber pattern from the resin mould and producing a metal mould from the rubber pattern. Flanges may be added to the master pattern. A foamable synthetic resin may be used so that when it is cured in a mould a solid skin is formed in contact with the mould backed by a foamed mass.
