Abstract

1,159,895. Cartons. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. 10 May, 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 44528/67. Heading B8P. A rectangular carton having a flexible liner 39 is closed by bending-in side flaps 28, 29 and simultaneously bending-in a hinged end panel 24, thus forming the liner into bellows folds, Fig. 4 (not shown), and then, when the end panel 24 is perpendicular to the main axis of the carton, Fig. 5 (not shown), with the end edge of the liner extending between the panels, hinging-over a lid 14 to fold the liner end on top of the end panel 24. As shown, each side flap 28, 29 consists of two panels hinged together along a score-line 30. In a modification, each side flap (26, 27), Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), consists of a single triangular panel hinged to the top side wall edge of the carton. The carton is erected from a single blank, Fig. 1 (not shown). A reinforcing strip (22) may be provided on the edge 12 of the lid. A hinged flap (43), Fig. 11 (not shown), may extend along the top edge of the end panel 24. The end of the liner 39 may be closed by heat sealing or by adhesive. A small scored panel 35 may be stuck to the inside of the lid 14 when the latter is closed, or the end panel 24 and the lid may be provided at their sides with interlocking slots and tongues (45, 46), Fig. 11 (not shown). Tabs (49), Figs. 10, 12 (neither shown), may be hinged to the side panels 28 and secured to the liner 39.
