Abstract

1,159,793. Endless conveyers. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 29 June, 1966 [1 July, 1965], No. 8311/69. Divided out of 1,159,791. Heading B8A. In an apparatus for merging two stacks of cigarettes or other rod-like articles moving in directions transverse to the axes of the articles, the stacks are carried by conveyers to a merger zone which lies above a conveyer which carries away the merged stack. A first stack of cigarettes C 1 is delivered by a chain conveyer 201 down a sloping plate 204 on to a double band conveyer (2051, 206 and thence to a zone above a conveyer 226 where they are merged with a stack of cigarettes C 2 fed by a double chain conveyer 213 over a bridge member 225. The merged stack C 3 is then carried away, e.g. to a packaging machine, between the bottom and top bands respectively of two conveyers 230, 231. The speed of the conveyers 230, 231 is controlled in response to a mechanism 233 actuated by a lever 232 that rises and falls with a pliable weighted flap 228 that rests on the top of the stack C 3 . In another embodiment (Fig. 3) photo-electric level detection of the top of the stack C 3 controls the speed of the conveyers.
