A machine for cleaning concrete formwork panels has a rotatable member provided with pivotally mounted flails which when the member is rotated are so arranged and pivoted as to hammer the surface of a panel passing beneath the member, and means are provided to drive the panel horizontally through the machine and beneath the member. As shown, an endless conveyer chain 6 extending across a bed 2 is driven by a motor 14 and has brackets 18 for engaging panels which are fed beneath a first group of vertically adjustable flails 30 arranged across the bed, a second group of flails laterally offset from the flails 30 and a rotatable, vertically adjustable wire brush 46; the edges of the panels are subjected to the action of wire brushes 52 driven by a motor 54. The panels are covered with mould oil issued from a container 56 connected with a roller 60. The flails and brush are rotated by a power-driven endless chain 62 and the underside of the panels, when of metal, are heated; the space between the cement-removing parts of the machine and a shield thereover is subjected to vacuum to draw off cement dust displaced from the panels. Brackets may be provided on the machine to hold the panels vertically for additional cleaning of the edges of the panels by a power-driven hand tool.
