Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A coated material used in photography (see Group G2) comprises a cellulose acetate support having an acetyl content of 58.5 62.5% coated with a subbing layer of a mixture of 70 to 45% of a vinyl copolymer and 30 to 55% of a gelatin hardener and then with a layer of acid gelatin and optionally a silver halide gelatin emulsion containing carbon black. The preferred vinyl copolymer is one containing 91 % vinyl chloride, 3 % vinyl acetate and 6% vinyl alcohol and the gelatin hardener specified is a polyurethane formed from 1, 1, 1-trimethylolpropane and 2, 5- tolylene di-isocyanate. Phthalic acid is the specified acid of the acid gelatin layer.
