Abstract

1,156,530. Coating apparatus. COORS PORCELAIN CO. 29 Dec., 1966 [10 Jan.. 1966], No. 58208/66. Heading B2L. In a machine for coating a cylindrical container, mechanism for rotating the container while in coating position, comprises a wheel 15 rotated in one direction and, having a peripheral surface in rotation producing contact with a side surface of the container 27<SP>1</SP> and a flexible belt 35 driven in the direction opposite the direction of rotation of the wheel 15 and located to have rotation-producing contact with the opposite side of the container. Containers 27 are fed down a chute 29 into pockets 28 of a star wheel 16 driven intermittently. In such pocket 28 the container rests in contact with a guide roller 23 and a pair of guide rollers 24 arranged on adjacent arms 22 so that they bear on the container in an axially spaced apart manner. Rotation of star-wheel 16 brings each container in turn to the position 27<SP>1</SP> where it is brought into contact with the wheel 15 on one side and a pair of axially spaced apart belts 35 on the other side so as to rotate the container without deforming pressures acting thereon. The belts 35 run in parallel directions but at a slight angle to a direction perpendicular to the axis of the containers to maintain the containers in contact with a spinner base to prevent any tendency to move in an axial direction. In the position 27<SP>1</SP> and whilst the container there is being rotated coating medium is sprayed into the container by suitable nozzle means. The belt assembly is mounted on a bracket 45 with adjusting means 46, 47 to allow adjustment of the positions of the belts relative to the containers and means are provided for rendering the spray nozzle inoperative in the event of no container being moved to the position 27<SP>1</SP>.
