1331330 Feeding sheets H KRONSEDER 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970 6 Nov 1970 12 Feb 1971] 23473/71 Heading B8R [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for separating labels from a pile 3 and transferring them to a labelling device comprises a rotary carrier 8 having a plurality of segments 1 pivotable, at 4, relative to the carrier by control means, e.g. by gearing associated with each segment actuated by a stationary cam track, so that each segment rolls over, and thereby separates, e.g. by adhesion, the foremost label of the pile, the radius of curvature r k of the label carrying face 2 of each segment being smaller than the distance r, its pivot centre 4 is spaced from the carrier axis 5, the pivot centre 4 being disposed so that the centre of curvature 6 of each segment follows a substantially straight path during the rolling motion, and the ratio of the maximum pivoting radius r max to said distance r, being substantially equal to the ratio of half the sum of label length l and label spacing s to the minimum distance e min between the foremost label and carrier axis 5. The surface 2 of each segment may be rotated in the same or opposite sense as the carrier 8 to engage a gluing belt 9 or roller (22), Fig. 5 (not shown), rotating at a constant or varying speed in the same or opposite sense as the carrier. Each segment then separates a label from the pile 3 and transports it to grippers 12 on a labelling cylinder 11. There may be two segments at each position, (Fig. 5), one for bottle neck labels and one for bottle body labels.
