Abstract

1,154,464. Dispensing detergent in dishwashing machines. HOBART MFG. CO. 25 July, 1966 [26 July, 1965], No. 33401/66. Heading A4F. A device for dispensing granular cleansing detergent in a dishwashing machine comprises a housing to be mounted on the inside of the door 12 of the cabinet of the machine and formed with two compartments 20, 22 (Fig. 2, not shown) for the detergent and a door 35 mounted on a shaft 40 rotatable by a torsion spring 65 to open one of the compartments (20, 22) whilst closing the other. In use a detergent for a preliminary washing operation may be placed in the compartment (20), and detergent for a main washing operation in the compartment (22), and the door 35 initially set manually to close the chamber (22) whilst leaving the chamber (20) open. A latch 50 then holds the door 35 from movement by the spring 65. After a preliminary washing operation during which the detergent is washed from the chamber (20), a solenoid 72 is energized to release the latch 50 so that the door 35 is turned by the spring 65 to open the compartment (22), from which the detergent is washed during the main washing operation.
