Abstract

1,152,983. Perfluoro-aminocarboxylic acids and derivatives thereof. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 3 May, 1966 [3 May, 1965], No. 19585/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C7] The invention comprises perfluorocarboxylic acid fluorides substituted by a tertiary amino group and having only a perfluoroalkylene group between the acid fluoride radical and the nitrogen atom of the tertiary amino group. The compounds are prepared by electrofluorination of a tertiary amino-substituted carboxylic acid halide having only an alkylene group between the acid halide radical and the nitrogen atom of the tertiary amino group. The acid fluorides may be converted to the corresponding acids, salts and esters by conventional methods. Ethyliminodipropionyl chloride hydrochloride is prepared by reacting ethylamine with ethyl acrylate to give diethyl ethyliminodipropionate, C 2 H 5 N(CH 2 CH 2 COOC 2 H 5 ) 2 , which is then hydrolysed with HCl to give ethyliminodipropionic acid hydrochloride, C 2 H 5 N(CH 2 CH 2 COOH) 2 .HCl, which is converted by reaction with PCl 5 to the desired acid chloride, C 2 H 5 N(CH 2 CH 2 COCl) 2 .HCl.
