Abstract

1,152,148. Weighing apparatus. MEPAG A.G. Oct.4, 1967 [May 9, 1967], No.45309/67. Heading G1W. In a precision balance comprising a beam 3 which is pivotally supported on a frame 1 and which pivotally carries a pendulum member 5, the member 5 pivotally supports a pan carrier 7 and eddy current brakes 9,11 and 10,12 are provided to suppress vibrations of the member 5 and carrier 7 independently of each other and relative to the frame 1. A weight 7' is provided on the carrier 7 vertically below a scale pan 8, and one or more springs 16 whose tension is adjustable by a manually actuated arrangement 13,14,15 may be connected to the member 5 for taring purposes. The eddy current brakes may comprise U-shaped permanent magnets 9,10 attached to the frame 1 and copper or aluminium vanes 11,12 attached to the member 5 and carrier 7 respectively for co-operation with the magnets 9,10. The beam 3 may be provided at its end remote from the pendulum member 5 with a counterweight and a weight indicating scale and the pendulum member 5 may support additional weights.
