Abstract

1,152,032. Recording tracks of particles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 26 Sept., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 43826/67. Heading G6P. U-235 is detected in a track-etching process by the formation of holes in a resin material by the fission-fragments and subsequently forming a visual image of the hole pattern. In one method a marking fluid is urged through the holes so as to contact a receptor sheet at the opposite side of the etched material. The receptor material may be porous so as to cause the marking fluid to disperse radially, thus forming an enlarged deposit. Alternatively, an indicator dye, such as phenolphthalein is used in place of the porous receptor sheet and a marking fluid reagent is passed through the etched holes. A visual image of the etched holes in a transparent sheet can also be formed by filling the holes with a fluorescing dye.
