Abstract

1,150,553. Photographic silver halide positive image process. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. May 2, 1966 [April 30, 1965], No. 18335/65. Heading G2C. Positive photographic images are produced by imagewise exposure of a photographic element containing a layer of internal-latent-image silver halide emulsion, and development of the layer with a surface developer while overall exposed to light and in the presence of a fog-inhibiting compound in greater than fog-inhibiting amounts. The antifoggant may be present in the emulsion or another layer or in the developer. Specified anti-foggants include triazoline-thiones, tetrazoline-thiones, a tetrahydropyrimidine-thione, 5-phenylureido-IH- benzotriazole, an oxo-s-triazolo [1:5-a]-pyrimidine, a hydroxypyrimido [1:2-a] benzimidazole and 2- mercapto ethyl carbanilate. The overall exposure during development may begin up to 30 seconds after development has begun. Specified surface developers, which must contain no effective amounts of silver halide solvents, are hydroquinone with 1- phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone, and with N-ethyl-pamino-phenol sulphate, and N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylp-phenylenediamine hydrochloride. The developers may be used at a high pH, high temps., in high concn., or with development activators. Several silver halide layers may be optically sensitized and colour couplers added thereto to form a multilayer colour material, which is developed in the presence of the light, bleached and fixed to give a positive coloured image.
