Abstract
1,149,404. Consolidating scrap. TEZUKA KOSAN K.K. 7 June, 1966, No. 25413/66. Heading B3H. Apparatus for consolidating metal scrap comprises a compression chamber 1 having slidable therein a pressure plate 3, and a closure member 4 carrying a plurality of rams 15, 16 for applying localized pressure to the scrap within the chamber. The member 4 is hinged at 19 and operated by a pair of hydraulic jacks 21, 23; a clamp 29 operated by an hydraulic jack 27 locks the member in its closed position. Spot pressure ram cylinders 13, 14 are mounted upon supports 12 on the closure member 4. Cylinders 13 contain short stroke rams 15 and cylinders 14 contain long stroke rams 16. The rams are preferably operated in group such as (R 1 , R 2 , R 3 ), Fig. 3 (not shown). Pressure plate 3 is operated by hydraulic rams 5, 6. Scrap metal is fed into the chamber by a hinged hopper (32), Fig. 2 (not shown) operated by an hydraulic ram (36).
