Abstract

1,149,342. Shaft seals. HOOVER Ltd. 20 Feb., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 7523/66. Heading F2B. [Also in Division D1] A horizontal axis washing machine has a seal mounted between the hub 16 of the rotary drum and the bearing housing 23 for the shaft thereof. As shown the seal comprise a ring 40 of plastics or carbon mounted on the hub 16 and a ring 41 of ceramic mounted on a rubber member 54. The two rings 40, 41 are urged together by a coil spring 46. The member 54 is mounted in the bearing housing 23 and a further extension is bent over between the bearing housing 23 and part of the cabinet 31.
