An impression cylinder is provided with a clamping assembly having an elongated body fitted in a longitudinal groove of the cylinder, the sides of the body defining a longitudinal cavity with a narrow access slot and being undercut adjacent the slot to provide a pair of internal surfaces for seating the edges of a blanket; a pair of longitudinally extending leafsprings secured to the bottom of the cavity have blanket-engaging surfaces which are controlled by a further member container in the cavity Fig. 1 is a section of a clamping assembly 10 in which an impression cylinder 12 carried on a shaft 13 is recessed with a longitudinal groove 11; the cylinder is covered with a blanket 15 whose ends 16, 17 are securely gripped by the clamp assembly 10, which includes a cast block 20 having sides 21, 22 and a bottom 23 defining a central cavity 24 (Fig. 5a). The surface of the cylinder is continued by arcuate segments 25, 26 separated by an access slot 27, and the block 20 is formed with cap screws 30 for securing to the groove 11. The sides of block 20 are undercut adjacent slot 27 to form two longitudinallyextending surfaces 35, 36 which co-operate with a leaf-spring 40 having bowed sides 41, 42, a central base 43 and blanket-gripping surfaces 45, 46 with preferably triangular projections (47) (Fig. 6, not shown) and secured to the root of cavity 24 by screws, 52. A cam-shaft 60 having cam surfaces 61, 62 extends centrally through the springs 40 over the whole length of the cylinder and can be rocked by engagement of the faceted end (76) with a wrench and can be locked in any position by means of a spring plate (77) (Fig. 2, not shown). In operation, the cam-shaft 60 is rocked from a clamping position to a position in which one set of spring elements, e.g. 42 in Fig. 5a, are retracted from surface 36 allowing a blanket to be tucked therebetween; rotation of the cam-shaft 60 through about 130 degrees then forces spring 42 on to surface 36 engaging blanket end 16, and releases spring 41 from surface 35 allowing the other blanket end 15 to be tucked in; further rotation to a central reference position (Figs. 5b, 5c, not shown) clamps both blanket ends by means of engagement between surfaces 36, 46 and 35, 45. A modification (Fig. 9, not shown) involves auxiliary springs interposed between the cam and the clamp spring for further tensioning the latter.
