Abstract
1,148,011. Alloys; powder metallurgy. DEVENTER-WERKE G.m.b.H. Feb. 1, 1967 [July 1, 1966], No.4973/67. Headings C7A and C7D. A self-lubricating material produced by powder metallurgy comprises Cu and/or Ni as the primary metal; a solid lubricant such as graphite; and phosphorus, introduced into the powder mixture as an alloy or compound and persisting as such in the end product, in a quantity of at least 0À5% by weight. The solid lubricant may be present in a proportion of 4-25% by weight, and the phosphorus may be introduced in the form of a phosphorcopper alloy or compound to give a phosphorus content of 0À5-2% in the end product. The material may additionally contain lead (e.g. 20% by weight), tin, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese and/or silver. The examples disclose the following manufacturing sequences: - (1) cold press, heat treat above 750C. (preferably 780C. ) in normal furnace atmosphere, hot press; (2) cold press, heat treat at 750C.. in an oxygen-free atmosphere, cold press; (3) cold press, heat treat at up to 850C. in hydrogen, cold press, anneal in hydrogen at up to 750C.
