Abstract
1,147,838. Inspecting glassware photoelectrically. GERRESHEIMER GLASHUTTENWERKE A.G. April 19, 1967April 23, 1966], No. 18065/67. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] Glass bodies are tested for undesired occlusions by passing light through them and forming an image of at least a portion of the body on the ends of a plurality of optical fibre bundles which conduct light to receivers which respond when the light intensity falling on them falls below a predetermined threshold. Light from a source 3 collimated by a lens 2 illuminates a bottle 4 which is rotated on the table 5. A lens 7 focuses an image 4" of the strip 4' of the bottle on a slot 9 in screen 8. The slot 9 contains the ends of a plurality of optical fibre bundles which are coupled to photo-electric receivers which may operate a bottle rejecting device. Groups of the optical fibres may have different cross-sectional areas, with the corresponding photo-cells adjusted to respond to different size occlusions e. g. pieces of fire-brick or carbon; folds; dirty areas and oil smears. The collimating lens 2 may be replaced by a ground glass screen.
