Abstract

1,145,420. Current transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 29 Feb., 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 9838/68. Heading H1T. A current transformer comprises a base 10 supporting an insulating column 12, in turn supporting a metal tank 14 through which runs a high voltage primary conductor 40, a secondary winding assembly 50 surrounding the primary 40 disposed within the tank 14; and a tubular metal tension member 18 extending through the column 12, provided with a means to clamp the tank 14, column 12 and base 10 together and compressively preload the column 12. Clamping means may be by a number of studs 30 co-operating with spring washers 36 to clamp flange 34 welded to the bottom of tension member 18 in relation to the base 10. The secondary coils are earthed at one point and are supported by the insulating support 24 which is clamped in position by the aforesaid means. The force produced in spring washers 36 may be varied by adjusting screw means 20 to vary the effective length of tension member 18. Each secondary 50 and 52 has an earthed magnetic core 54 and insulative covering 64, and the whole secondary assembly is enclosed in the grounded metal shielding 60. The tension member 18 serves as a conduit for the leads 66 of the secondary windings. Additional electric shielding 70 and 72 may be provided. The tank and insulating column are filled with sulphur hexafluoride under pressure.
