Abstract

1,141,640. Time delay switching circuits. A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. 22 April, 1966 [23 April, 1965], No. 53160/67. Divided out of 1,124,492. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] The integrating capacitor 20 of a timing circuit is given a small initial charge by connecting the charging terminal of the capacitor through a diode 41 to the junction of a potentiometer 42, 43 and a further diode 44 is connected in series with resistor 43 to compensate for changes in voltage across diode 41 with temperature. The initial charge removes variations in the timing period due to the difficulties of completely discharging the capacitor caused by dielectric absorption and other reasons. In the protective system shown, the operation of reed relay 10 due to overload causes a contact 11 to be made so that the initial charge is applied and progressive charging commences. Charging continues until a complementary type crosscoupled circuit 23 is thereby changed to the conducting state to render transistor 27 conducting and operate relay 30. Contact 32 of this relay operates a relay 34 provided with a holding circuit 37 and also operates the tripping coil 36. A third diode 45 compensates for the voltage drop across the emitter-base diode of transistor 22.
