Abstract

1,140,195. Vibratory mechanisms. VIBRATOR MFG. CO. 29 March, 1966 [29 March, 1965], No. 13938/66. Heading F2X. A fluid driven vibrator comprises a housing 12 provided with an internal endless track 20, a disc-shaped rotor having a surface 45 for riding upon the track, a fluid inlet 52, a fluid outlet 56, and a fluid passage 60 in communication with the inlet to enable the rotor to be started in different mounting positions of the vibrator. The by-pass may be formed by a groove 60 in the periphery of the rotor or by a groove in the track 20 and the housing is closed by a pair of side plates 22 provided with apertures to receive a clamping bolt 28. To provide cavities of different widths in the housing interchangeable side plates having shoulders of different widths and a label plate 34 are provided. Interchangeable rotors of different widths and diameters may also be provided and the effective internal diameter of the rotor may be varied by the use of detachable rings. Steel or bronze or other metals that burnish or work harden or plastics or ceramic material may be used for the rotor while the housing 12 may be forged or cast in high tensile steel or iron, the track 20 being bored, reamed or broached, and if necessary, finish ground. The diameter of the outlet opening and the width of the groove 60 are equal to twice the diameter of the inlet opening while the depth of the groove equals half the diameter of the inlet opening.
