Abstract
1,038,341. Capacitors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 10, 1963 [June 20, 1962], No. 23050/63. Heading H1M. An electrical capacitor in which superposed alternating layers of electrically conducting material and impregnated dielectric sheets are assembled together, is characterized in that the dielectric sheets are impregnated with a hardened liquid epoxy resin. An assembly of metal and dielectric sheets may be impregnated with a liquid epoxy resin and a curing agent, and then subjected to heat and pressure to cure the resin to form a solid dense compressed mass. The dielectric is preferably paper, the electrodes may be aluminium, copper, tin, or stainless steel either in the form of foils or as coatings on the dielectric, and the resin preferably has an epoxide equivalent of not more than 195 and a viscosity not higher than 10,000 centipoises. The electrodes may extend alternately from each side of the assembly to form leads, Fig. 1 (not shown), or may be provided with tabs which protrude alternately from each half of the top edge of the assembly, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown).
