Abstract

1,037,271. Registering can body blanks. T. E. LAXO. May 3, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 17584/63. Heading B8A. In a machine for carrying out operations on can body blanks C at successive work stations 12, 14, 16 the blanks C are fed along a track 19 by pivoted fingers 20 on a bar 18 reciprocated by means not shown. At each station a blank C passes under a spring-loaded back stop 42 which it lifts while passing and is then gripped by a friction shoe 52 spring-loaded to hold the blank C against movement during the operation at the work station and to stop the blank from bouncing. A bar 60 carrying reverse finger pushers 66 is attached to a frame member 24 by parallelogram links 62 and normally held in an upper position against the member 24 by a spring 71. When a notching slide 14a at the work station 14 descends to carry out its operation a cam face 73 thereon engages a complementary surface 75 pivoting the bar 60 so that each pusher 66 engages the leading edge of a can body blank and forces it back against the associated back stop 42 to register it for the particular operation. Withdrawal of the notching slide 14a allows the bar 60 carrying the pushers 66 to return to its upper position under the action of the spring 71 so that the cycle may repeat.
