Abstract

1,037,110. Belt gearing. ETABLISSEMENTS THEODORE HOUBEN S.A. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 17, 1962; Dec. 3, 1963], No. 49386/63. Heading F2Q. A method of splicing a belt comprises cutting the ends 4, 5 to be joined on a slant, tapering the outer surfaces 6, 7 of the belt ends to form a depression 8, Fig. 2, when they are joined by a bonding compound applied between them, applying a joining element 9, Fig. 3, which corresponds to the shape of the depression 8, and covering the external surface of the splice with a thin strip 10, Fig. 4, of synthetic adhesive material. As shown, a notched V-belt is made up of two layers 1, 2 of rubber with different characteristics and an outer layer 3 of synthetic fibre-forming polymer such as a polyamide or a polyester resin. The joining element 9 also consists of a synthetic resin material, preferably of the same kind as the outer layer, and finally all the parts adjacent the splice are polymerized under heat and pressure.
