Abstract
The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1037164/C4-C5/1> wherein X is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom, R1 is an alkyl group which may be substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy or acyloxy groups and R2 is an alkyl, cyanoalkyl, aralkyl, b -hydroxy - g - chloropropyl, furfuryl or b -acylethyl radical of formula <FORM:1037164/C4-C5/2> wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and R4 is an alkyl radical. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized 2,4-dinitroaniline with an appropriate 3-acetylamino-6-alkoxy - N - substituted - aniline. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose acetate and particularly polyethylene terephthalate fibres from aqueous dispersions in violet to blue shades.
