Abstract
A fertilizer composition suitable for application to turf is obtained by mixing a particulate porous siliceous carrier with a neutral or alkaline solution of methylol ureas having a molar ratio of urea: formaldehyde of 1 : 1 to 3 : 1 and then converting the methylol ureas to methylene ureas in situ in and about the carrier particles by increasing the acidity and/or temperature of the mixture. Conventional fertilizer ingredients may also be included in the mixture various phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen compounds being specified. The ingredients may be chosen to buffer the mixture to a pH of 4.5 to 6.5. The only carrier specified is expanded vermiculate. Examples illustrate various compositions with and without conventional fertilizer ingredients and contrast the product of the invention with equivalent mechanical mixtures.
