Abstract
1,035,567. Making branch connections to cables. W. PFISTERER. Sept. 25, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963 (3)], No. 39161/64. Heading H2E. A device for making a number of separate branch connections to the cores 2 of a multicore cable comprises, for each core, a toothed contact piece 5 which is dovetailed into a corresponding shell and which has a slot 7 for the corresponding branch conductor 4. Insulation 9 separates the contact piece 5 from the shell 11, and spacing keys 13 are provided for placing between the cores. In use, the device is placed between appropriately shaped dies, Fig. 9 (not shown), of a pressing tool and the shells 11 are forced radially inwards so that the contact pieces 5 penetrate the cores and are closed about the branch conductors 4, Fig. 2 (not shown). Bolts 12 between the shells are then tightened. Toothed spacing keys, Figs. 4-8 (not shown), of compression-resistant plastics material may be used where the core insulation has a low compressive strength. The dies may be dimensioned to meet at the desired pressure or the tool may have a pressive-limiting device.
