Abstract

1,035,395. Tool-holders. ALFRED HERBERT Ltd. June 22, 1965 [June 23, 1964], No. 25828/64. Headings B3B and B3C. A holder for supporting a cylindrical shank of a tool 31 comprises two coaxial collets 14, 15 having surfaces tapering from larger adjacent faces outwardly towards the axis of the holder and means for forcing the collets outwardly into co-acting tapered annular members 11, 12 to cause the shank to be gripped at axiallyspaced locations. The collets are urged apart by pistons 17, 18 operated by a screwed piston 25. The boring-bar 31 is located in the holder by a collar 33 having a tongue 35. In a modification, the collets are forced apart by screwed sleeves 37, 38, Fig. 3 (not shown), one of which is rotated by a worm 44. In a further modification, the worm gearing is replaced by rack-and-pinion gearing.
