Abstract

1,035,245. Viscose spinning. COURTAULDS NORTH AMERICA Inc. May 3, 1963 [May 4, 1962], No. 17510/63. Heading B5B. Formaldehyde which is at least 70% monomeric is added to viscose, which is then extruded through a multi-hole spinneret into an acid spinning bath, the resulting filaments being stretched. The formaldehyde may be added to the viscose, preferably not more than 90 minutes before extrusion, as an aqueous solution containing not more than 20% by weight of formaldehyde. The concentration of formaldehyde in the viscose may be 0À2-1À5% by weight at the time of spinning. Stretching may be carried out before complete regeneration, in the spinning bath itself, in a second acid bath, in a water bath (see Specification 1,035,245) in steam, or in air (see Specification 1,034,177). The degree of stretch may be 40-350%. Regeneration may be completed during or after stretching. The filaments have high tenacities.
