Abstract

A wide slit nozzle for the extrusion of foam thermoplastic sections comprises a plurality of parallel detachable elements 8 for dividing the material into parallel streams which are compressed by passage between the elements 8 to be decompressed in a diverging part of the nozzle. The elements 8 are supported by holders 9, 10 in passing the gap between which maximum compression of the foamable material occurs, and on leaving which rapid decompression occurs with formation of cells in the material. The elements 8 may incorporate electric heating means or may be hollow for the passage of a heating or cooling medium.
