Abstract

1,033,231. Bearings. SOCIETE RATEAU. May 15, 1964 [June 7, 1963], No. 20368/64. Heading F2A. A fluid thrust bearing comprises a disc 1 fixed on a shaft 2 by means of a spacer 3 and a locking ring 4 and an annular piston 7 coaxial with the shaft 2 mounted on a stator 6 and having a flanged ring 8 screwed thereto. A thrust-face 15 of the piston 7 has three recesses 16 therein, each recess being connected to pressurized fluid in a space 20 by passages 17 in the piston by restrictors 18 each having a calibrated orifice 19 and by the flanged rings 8. Seals 10, 13 of metal and synthetic plastics material respectively are provided between the stator 6 and the piston 7. In use, pressurized fluid in the space 20, being of greater pressure than fluid in the space 21, passes through the rings 8, restrictors 18, and passages 17 to the recesses 16, so as to form a pressurized clearance between a surface 5 of the disc 1 and the surface 15 of the piston 7.
