Abstract

1,031,814. Invalid chairs. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. March 5, 1963 [Dec. 5, 1961], No. 43500/61. Headings A4J and A4M. A chair, couch, bed or other such rest device comprises an assembly of substantially rigid sections 7, 8, 9, 10 edge to edge at suitable angles to each other to give the required seated, semi-seated, or reclined position, a rigid framework 11, Fig. 3 (not shown), mounted on wheels to support said assembly, a mattress 5 in one or more sections shaped to support the body of a person so that when displaced from its normal rest position on the mattress the body will tend to be returned thereto when the displacing force ceases. The mattress is made from a natural or synthetic foam rubber, or a synthetic expanded foam material having the resilient properties of foam rubber, or it can be an inflatable cushioning device. The mattress can also be made from a waterproof material or be covered by one. A tray can be attached to, the framework 11 by sliding it into grooves 13. A footrest 14 may be added and a handle attached to assist in moving the framework 11.
