Abstract

1,031,187. Colour television tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. April 16, 1964 [May 3, 1963], No. 15843/64. Heading H1D. A multi-gun colour kinescope provided with adjustable magnetic field means for effecting convergence of the electron beams in the vicinity of the screen by independent radial movement of each beam, is also provided with additional adjustable magnetic field means for moving one of the beams in a direction perpendicular to the plane through the tube axis and the axis of the electron gun producing this beam. The additional magnetic field means comprises a pair of radially-spaced polepieces 41, 42 arranged on opposite sides of the electron gun, and a magnet 37, having a length equal to that of the polepiece 41 remote from the tube axis, located externally of the tube for circumferential movement around the tube between a position (that shown) in which all the magnetic flux passes through polepiece 41 and does not affect the electron beam, and positions in which varying amounts of the magnetic flux pass through and between polepieces 41, 42 to effect variable lateral deflection of the beam. As shown, the magnet 37 is secured on the tube neck by a non-magnetic holder 38 and a spring 39, adjacent the focusing electrode 26 of the gun concerned, e.g. the " blue " gun. A similar lateral deflection arrangement may be used for the red or green beams to produce convergence of the beams in the apertures of the shadow mask.
