Abstract

1,030,738. Moulding tyres. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. April 23, 1963 [April 25, 1962], No. 15899/63. Heading B5A. Tyres are produced by bonding a member comprising a tread element 3 and a substantially inextensible cincture belt 2, to a carcass member 4, comprising layers of reinforcing cords 5 and side walls 6, and 7, in a conventional expansible diaphragm vulcanizing press. The member 3, 2 is placed in the lower mould half 1,. of a vulcanizing press, and the carcass member 4 positioned around the diaphragm 12 as shown. The upper mould half 13 is then lowered and steam admitted into the diaphragm during which time the carcass member assumes a toroidal shape and moves out to contact the member 3, 2. The mould is then completely closed (see Fig. 4, not shown) and vulcanizing is accomplished in the conventional manner to form the tread and unite the two members to form the finished tyre.
