Abstract

1399864 Moulding tyres DUNLOP Ltd 10 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 34113/71 Heading B5A A tread for subsequent application to a pneumatic tyre is moulded from an annular slug 16 of rubber placed between mould parts 10, 11 which are brought together under a pressure of 1500- 2000 p.s.i. to force the rubber into a mould cavity formed between the parts: 10, 11 and a segmental annular core 18 which holds a breaker assembly 5. The partially cured tread is applied to an unvulcanized tyre carcass and the assembly completely vulcanized. Alternatively the tread is stitched to a buffed worn tyre casing to which additional partially cured rubber for the sidewalls is stitched and vulcanization then effected. [GB1399864A]
