Abstract
1,030,458. Rotary compressors. MIDLANDROSS CORPORATION. April 5, 1965 [April 6, 1964], No. 14266/65. Heading F1F. A rotary fluid compressor of the "Roots" blower type in which a pair of lobed rotors disposed within a chamber on spaced parallel axes are rotatable in unison in opposite directions comprises rotors wherein each lobe profile is epicycloidal and generated by a point on the circumference of a rolling circle of diameter not greater than A, Fig. 3, rolling on a portion of the exterior of a base circle of diameter B and each recess profile is hypocycloidal and generated by a rolling circle of a diameter not less than A rolling on an inside adjacent portion of the same base circle and wherein A=B/2N where N is equal to the number of lobes, usually two, and in which the spacing between the rotor axes equals B. To permit of a satisfactory working clearance between the rotors and between a rotor and the casing, which is of circular profile and of a diameter D=B+B/N the diameter of the lobe rolling circle equals A-C and the diameter of the recess rolling circle equals A+C where C is of the order of 0À001B. The rotors can be accurately manufactured in dies from sintered metal powders. To ensure accuracy, the rotor profile is produced 100 times actual size on plywood and reduced to actual size by a pantograph to produce a template for the die-maker. Longitudinal cooling fins are provided on the casing body and transverse cooling fins on an end cover.
