Abstract

1335063 Mixing NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 5225/70 Heading B1C A mixing device comprises a hollow housing 10a defining a chamber having a symmetrical cross-section formed by lobes with circular arcuate peripheries located about axes of rotation of which adjacent axes are mutually displaced by a distance less than the sum of radii of adjacent lobes. The chamber has port means 18, 19 in at least one longitudinal end for passage of material to and from the chamber. A rotor 12a, 12b is mounted about the axis of each lobe. Each of the radial arms of each rotor has concave, radially extending sides and a radially outer circular arcuate periphery that will pass closely adjacent the lobe periphery during rotation of the rotor. The concave sides of adjacent rotors merge into convex axial portions of the rotor. Each arm has defined by its sides and outer periphery a trailing tip and a leading tip and adjacent rotors are rotated at the same rate but in opposite senses so that the trailing tip of one arm wipes the leading tip of the other arm. Specified are the curvatures of various surfaces of the rotors, which may be of straight cylindrical or spiral form.
