Abstract

1,030,369. Slitting machines. BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd. April 15, 1965 [April 27, 1964], No. 17397/64. Heading B4B. A machine for slitting a sheet 1 into two or more narrower sheets 4 comprises a fixed tubular member 7 made of an aluminium alloy having spaced across its width transverse grooves 9 into which project one or more blades 5, air under pressure supplied to the interior of the member 3 passing through passageways 14 to the grooves 9 so as to provide an air cushion between the sheet 1 and the member 3. The blades are held in slidably-mounted spring- influenced holders 10 which are reciprocated by a cam 12 to vary the point of cut. Each blade may be retracted within its holder. If the cutting edge of the blade is set substantially perpendicular to the member 3, the blade may be reciprocated vertically in its groove to vary the point of cut.
