Abstract
1,029,817. Crankcase ventilating. O. F. JONES. Nov. 5, 1962 [Nov. 6, 1961], No. 41817/62. Heading F1B. The flow of gases from a crankcase to an intake manifold is controlled by a suction operated slide valve 20, Fig. 6, of triangular cross-section which co-operates with a restriction to reduce the flow as manifold suction increases. In Fig. 6 the valve is mounted in the cover of a liquid trap and filter 62 connected by a pipe 78 to the crankcase and through a connection 88 to the intake manifold. The gases enter at 82 and flow upwardly past a baffle 80, e.g. of zinc, which reacts with acids in the gases, liquid droplets in the gases being trapped at 86. The remaining gases flow to the valve unit 20 through a filter 72 supported by a perforated screen 70 and clamped between flanged parts of the cover 60 and chamber 62, which is of translucent material. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the crankcase gases flow through a baffle filter 98 to a separate valve unit 20 similar to that of Fig. 6 and the baffle may be cut out by a valve controlled by-pass 110.
