Abstract

1,004,494. Crankcase ventilation systems. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 13, 1961], No. 46808/62. Heading FIB. Crankcase gases of a crankcase 10, Fig. 1, having an inlet 14 fitted with a check valve are fed through a pipe 50 to the engine air intake system 36. In Fig. 1 the pipe 50 is provided with an oil baffle 62 and a condensate trap 56 and leads to a chamber 36 in the air filter 34 fitted to the carburetter 24. In Fig. 2 the crankcase gases are fed through a pipe 30<SP>1</SP> with branches 40<SP>1</SP>, 60<SP>1</SP> leading respectively to the air filter chamber 46<SP>1</SP> and the intake manifold 12<SP>1</SP> at a point below the throttle valve. The gases fed through the pipe 40<SP>1</SP> result in a slightly rich mixture which is connected by the gases fed through the branch 60<SP>1</SP>. An orifice 118<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, in the entry to pipe 60<SP>1</SP> may be cleaned by a manuallyoperated spring-loaded plunger 123<SP>1</SP> with a cleaning pin 133. Flame traps formed by metal gauge 140<SP>1</SP>, 34<SP>1</SP> are provided in the pipe 30<SP>1</SP>.
