Abstract
1,029,638. Cushions, &c. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 32043/63. Heading A4M. [Also in Division B5] A method of moulding articles such as cushions, seats and armrests comprises forming an outer skin from synthetic plastics by a slush moulding or rotational casting process, partially curing or gelling the skin, introducing a foamable plastics mixture, which by a similar process is moulded to form a layer on the inner surface of the skin, curing or gelling to bond the layer to the skin, and finally introducing a foamable mixture which on foaming fills the remaining space within the skin, permeates the inner surface of the layer, and is bonded thereto on curing. In the embodiment described the skin is formed from a polyvinyl chloride plastisol, the layer from a foamable polyvinyl chloride plastisol mixture, e.g. 16 parts by weight of the synthetic resin with 0.5-10 parts by weight of water, and in any case such that the inner surface of the layer has a cratered appearance, and the filling from a resilient urethane foam forming material.
