Abstract

1,028,132. Piston and stuffing-box packing. TRIST MOULDING & SEALS Ltd. Jan. 14, 1965 [Jan. 20, 1964], No. 2413/64. Headings F2B and F2T. In a packing ring for a piston or rod and comprising three coaxial rings bonded together, one ring 1 is of readily deformable material and has a cylindrical surface that forms the inner or outer peripheral surface of the packing ring and the other two rings 2, 3 are of firmer material and are separated by an annulus 8 of the ring 1 which annulus has a radial width, at least at the midpoint 4 in the axial length of the packing ring, greater than that of any other part of the packing ring. In the piston ring shown in Fig. 1, the ring 1 is of soft rubber and has an inner cylindrical surface adapted, in use, to sealingly contact the base of the piston groove and the rings 2 and 3 are of fabric-reinforced rubber.
