Abstract
Hydrocarbons capable of undergoing skeletal rearrangement or double bond shift are isomerized by contact with titania having hydrogen atoms in surface hydroxyl groups capable of ionizing and exchanging which has been treated with an ionic solution of a salt of Al on Ga such that 0.01 to 3% of the latter are incorporated into the surface of the TiO2. The TiO2 may be prepared conventionally and may have a surface area greater than 200 sq.m./gm. Reaction conditions may be:-Temperature 50-600 DEG C. L.H.S.V. 0.1 to 20 vol./vol. Suitable feedstocks include 3:3 dimethyl butene-1, 4-methyl pentene-1 and butene-2. In an example the products from 4-methyl pentene-1 are cis and trans-3 and 4-methyl pentene-2 and 2 methyl pentene-1 and 2.ALSO:Titania having hydrogen atoms in surface hydroxyl groups capable of ionizing and exchanging is treated with an ionic solution of a salt of Al or Ga such that 0.01 to 3% of ions of the latter are incorporated into the surface of the TiO2. The TiO2 may be prepared conventionally and may have a surface area greater than 200 sq. m./gm. In an example TiO2 was prepared by adding de-ionized water to a solution of n-butyl titanate in benzene, washing and heating at 550 DEG C. Catalysts containing 0.39% Al and 0.41% Ga or TiO2 are prepared by allowing TiO2 to stand in M/10 sulphate solutions overnight, followed by exhaustive extraction.ALSO:Titania having hydrogen atoms in surface hydroxyl groups capable of ionizing and exchanging is treated with an ionic solution of a salt of Al or Ga such that 0-01 to 3% of the latter are incorporated on to the surface of the TiO2.
