Abstract

1,027,484. Blow-moulding hollow articles. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. Dec. 9, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 48525/63. Heading B5A. In a process for applying paper labels to blow extruded hollow bodies made of polyolefines, the labelling is effected while the hollow body is being produced by inserting the paper label in the opened blow mould and extruded polyolefine tubing then being inflated in the closed mould. In order to improve adhesion the back of the label is made rough and may be coated with the plastic material of which the hollow body itself is made. The front surface of the label may also be coated with the plastic material or with a varnish. In one example, a thin paper label is thinly coated on both sides with polypropylene and is attached to the side wall of a rectangular bottle mould. Polypropylene tubing at about 250‹ C. is introduced into the mould and pressed against its inner walls at a pressure of 8 atm. to form a rectangular bottle with a firmly adhering label.
