Abstract
1,027,314. Fastening drawers simultaneously. A. CAIRNS., J. NOBLE. Feb. 28, 1964 [Nov. 28, 1962], No. 44977/62. Heading E2A. A column of drawers with a top drawer 11 and at least one lower drawer 12 has a locking mechanism at the rear of the column for securing in a closed position all but one of the drawers, the mechanism comprising a vertically reciprocable member 17 biased upwards by a spring 19, an actuating member 20 extending . f from the reciprocable member for engagement by a drawer 11 so as to move the reciprocable member downwards, upon closure the drawer, and at least one catch 22 extending from the reciprocable member whereby the or each other drawer is engaged and secured in position by a catch upon downward movement of the reciprocable member. To lock the desk the lower drawers are closed to a position in which the catches 22, 23, 24 extend over the rear wall of the drawers 12, 13, 14 respectively and as the upper drawer is closed the lower rear edge of it engages the actuating member i.e. metal finger 20 forcing it and thus the reciprocating member 17 downwards causing the catches to engage the rear walls of their respective drawers. As the top drawer is opened the rod 17 moves upwards disengaging the watches from the lower drawers.
