Abstract

1,026,077. Securing carpets to floors. M. B. HUGHES. Sept. 30, 1964 [July 4, 1963; Oct. 9, 1963], Nos. 26546/63 and 39839/63. Heading A4S. [Also in Division B5] A carpet edging made from synthetic plastics material comprises a strip 1 formed with a lip 4 which, when the strip 1 is - mounted over a floor, can be prised up for inserting thereunder the edge of a carpet 3 and will clamp the inserted carpet edge under its own resilience. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the edging comprises an extruded nylon strip 1 having a longitudinal channel 2 to receive the margin of the carpet 3. The lip 4 overlies the carpet 3 and a longer wall 6 is situated thereunder. The wall 6 may be wedge shaped, as shown. The edge of the strip 1 adjacent the closed end of the channel 2 is tapered to provide a ramp so that the edging is particularly suitable for use near doorways. The strip may be screwed, tacked or nailed to the floor. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, the edging has a blunt edge to engage a wall. Flanges 7 may be provided to raise the strip 1 from the floor by the thickness of the underfelt 8. The channel bounded by the wall 6 and the flanges 7 can be used to conceal electric wiring. The flanges 7 may be omitted and a passage 9, Fig. 7 (not shown), is provided to accommodate wiring. In a modification, Fig. 8, to replace worn patches in carpets, two strips 1, formed with open channels 9 are positioned back-to-back. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5, the wall 6 is omitted and a flange 7a is secured to a wall.
