Frames and framing. - In cargocarrying ships, particu.arly for liquids in bulk, having Icngitudinal frames and beams Q, PS, Fig. 2, supporting the shell and deck plating, and wide-spaced transverse ribs or webs R, RW between transverse bulkheads H, Fig. 1, the webs R, RW are attached directly to the side plating M and to the unierside of the deck beams PS, but not to the deck plating. When longitudinal bulkheads are used dividing the webs into two or more parts, at least one of such parts is arranged as described above under the deck beams, and, similarly, at least one of such parts lies on the bottom frames but is not attached to the bottom plating. Three or five of the webs R, RM, Fig. 1, may be arranged between adjacent transverse bulkheads H, and the middle rib RM, Fig. 1, may be stronger and attached to the longitudinal stiffeners by knee-plates P; or two or more webs of equal strength may be used and spaced relatively nearer to each other than to the transverse bulkheads. which are connected by knee-plates to the longitudinals.
