Abstract

1,024,859. Tar boilers. PHOENIX ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 15, 1964 [Nov. 26, 1963], No. 46703/63. Heading E1T. [Also in Division F4] A mastic asphalt heater is fitted with an oilfired burner assembly comprising a refractory lined tube 4; forming the combustion chamber for gases received from a burner situated at one end, the other end of the tube 4 being connected to a perforated heat resistant steel tube 10 Fig. 1 (not shown) The refractory lined tube 4 and perforated tube 10 may be in alignment or may be connected by a U-shaped refractory lined tube such that they are parallel, Fig. 3 (not shown). The burner assembly is supported within a casing 1 such that the perforated tube 10 is directly below the centre of a tank 2 for the mastic asphalt. A secondary air inlet 8 is provided in a housing 7 connected to the tube 4, and containing a refractory block 6 directing the burner gases into the tube 4.
