Abstract
1,023,725. Pneumatic separation of solids. MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSERIE A. HEINEN G.m.b.H. Sept. 29, 1964 ! [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 39619/64. Headings B2H and B2P. [Also in Division A2] Apparatus for stripping tobacco leaves and separating the leaf portions from the stems comprises a rotating impeller or disintegrator 3 having teeth 9 and operatively connected to a separating plant 2 with provision for the reintoduction of coarse siftings into the impeller 3. The leaves are fed by a conveyer 7 to the sector A of the impeller and stripped by the action of the teeth 9 against an adjustable comb bridge 10 or alternatively against rotary discs. The leaves then pass under the action of air up a channel 5 to a first chamber 14 and then to a second chamber 15. Properly stripped leaf components pass to a conduit 21 while the remainder falls back through a gate 16 and channel 6 to the sector B of the impeller 3. The material progessively treated in the sector B arrives, via a shoot 23 and through a suction pipe 24, in a second separating plant 25. Satisfactory leaf portions pass to a conduit 28 whilst the remainder falls through a gate 29 to a subsequent impeller 30 connected by passage 31 to a further separating plant 32.
